Following the economic recession of 2008–2014 and the subsequent downsizing by SBS that eliminated several key positions, including their own, Jesse and Clarita made the decision to return from the Bay Area to Bakersfield in late 2010. This period marked not a retreat, but a strategic reset. Committed to long-term impact and community service, they invested in a two-year certification process as Life and Business Coaches through Choice Center Leadership University in Las Vegas—deepening their focus on education, leadership, and empowerment.

In 2012, this foundation gave rise to Estudio72Radio.com, a digital media platform conceived as both an accessible marketing vehicle for local businesses and a scalable syndication model for small terrestrial stations operating with limited budgets. Estudio72 became an incubator for original programming and emerging radio talent, including El Show del Chikilin and Háblale al Mundo con Jesse & Clarita, while simultaneously functioning as a proving ground for programming strategy, production systems, advertising models, and brand development. Though digital-first by necessity, Estudio72 was always guided by a larger ambition: full ownership of a terrestrial radio station.

After multiple attempts to acquire stations in California—and navigating FCC license denials—that ambition was realized with the acquisition of KTGE Joya 1570 AM in Monterey County. Under the Joya brand, the operation transitioned from a digital platform into full broadcast ownership, serving the communities of Salinas, Monterey, and Santa Cruz. Over a three-year period, Joya 1570 established strong audience engagement and cultural relevance, including collaborative work with major media partners such as Telemundo, and positioned itself as a bridge between nonprofit organizations and the communities they serve.

Despite its popularity and community impact, the station ultimately faced the economic realities of the post-pandemic media landscape, where audience behavior increasingly favored digital platforms over traditional AM radio. While long-term terrestrial sustainability proved challenging, the experience represented the fulfillment of a long-held dream: owning and operating a licensed radio station with full creative, operational, and commercial control. Today, that legacy continues through JoyaRadio.com, where the brand lives on as a digital outlet dedicated to Regional Mexican music and community-focused programming—closing the loop between Estudio72’s original digital vision and the lessons learned through terrestrial ownership.
